linda shaw fine art

BACKGROUND

Linda Shaw was born in New Jersey and currently resides in Richmond, Virginia. Linda is both a studio and a plein air painter working primarily in oils. Her work is derived from a wide array of subject matter -- landscape, portrait and everything in between. Linda's style is expressionistic yet maintains a representational quality. She employs energetic  brushwork, gestural marks and varied edges to communicate her vision. Linda's work is greatly inspired by the Post-Impressionists that relied on their emotions to connect with the viewer on a deep level.  Linda believes compelling paintings are founded on the unique flow of the artist -- eye, brain, heart and hand.

ART EDUCATION

Linda studied figure drawing in the 90's at the Art Students League of  New York, mostly working in charcoal.  With a perpetual student mindset, she continues to study with regional artists such as Andras Bality, Sally Bowring, Robin Caspari, Joan Elliott, Matt Lively, Maria Reardon and Kendra Wadsworth. Linda regularly enrolls in workshops with nationally acclaimed artists such as Michael Shane Neal (portrait); James Richards (impressionism); Haidee Jo Summers (plein air); Kyle Buckland (still life); Joseph Gyurcsak (plein air landscape); and Suchitra Bhosle (portrait).
