ARTIST STATEMENT
I create atmospheric, representational oil paintings grounded in a language of grays. For me, gray is not the absence of color, nor does it suggest enervation. Rather, it is a nuanced expressive field that allows color to be felt rather than declared.
Working with a predominantly desaturated palette, soft edges, and compressed values, I distill fleeting moments -- a glance, a place, a memory -- into their emotional essence. Loose, expressive brushwork moves across these surfaces, affirming that subtlety does not preclude vitality.
My process is guided by restraint. I seek to preserve the delicate relationships built through thoughtful layers that gently nudge forms into existence. I carefully consider the final strokes of pure, alluring color, knowing how quickly they can dominate their muted counterparts. I allow the tension between control and release --between softened form and active mark -- to carry the image.
In a culture shaped by overstimulation and disconnection, I do not seek to add to the noise. I create paintings rooted in human presence. Through atmosphere, restraint, and expressive brushwork, my work slows perception and opens space for reflection and connection -- a counterpoint to the isolation and fragmentation of contemporary life.
